Weaving together open source software and decentralized storage protocols, we developed a unique trust-based stack that has two main components: a decentralized storage Archive Engine and a patent pending local-first Trust Client.
Modeled on a decade of collaboration with artists, our Archive Engine is designed around established patterns of trust. Data exchange in a secure environment enables new behaviors for building value around data, together.
Resilience is key to this infrastructure. The Archive Engine is built on tooling from the Protocol Labs Ecosystem and Open Source Software to create a trust-based decentralized archiving solution.
The core Archive Engine is flexible to adapt to the needs of any group that wishes to cooperatively archive data. Hardware storage nodes ensure individuals have full autonomy over their data, without any external dependencies. On top of this steadfast foundation, open protocols create a network of trust that seeds encrypted backups of data across nodes, resulting in a resilient global peer-to-peer preservation network. If one node goes down, it can be restored from the others in the network.
Implementing the Archive Engine gives any distributed community a shared private file system that is redundantly stored and secure.
Local-first interfaces display activity across the node network. Archiving is a lonely activity – collaborative data caretaking interfaces present new ways of thinking about the value of cultural data, beyond monetary exchanges.
Co-designed with a team of Time-based Media Conservators from leading GLAM institutions. Trust Client interfaces make museological conservation practices accessible to artist studios.
Our patent pending Local-first Trust Client enables cooperative data stewardship, and is designed to be lightweight so it can be easily reconstructed by conservators 100 years in the future.
Artists own and tend to their data without reliance on any third party servers or platforms. The networked components of the Trust Client provide added benefits of redundant storage and efficient governance of data, allowing artists to grow the value of their archive.
Filecoin smart contracts facilitate co-op operations and cold-storage of the archives, offering another layer of redundancy to ensure the longevity and legacy of the trust.
